September 29, 2014

元気でしょうか?It has been another AWESOME week, absolutely crazy in all forms (again). It all began last Monday...

So we went to Yakiniku with the elders for P-day. On the way there, we met this girl named Kaori Chan, who is half Brazilian. She came to church on Sunday and she said that she never liked churches that she went to before, but she really loved our church. We meet her again tomorrow! While we were grocery shopping, we were talking about cheese and Garrett Shimai was saying how we have to try this one special cheese.  There was this woman who was obviously listening to us. So I asked her if she had ever tried the cheese and of course the answer was no.  But turns out, she lived in Utah, knew the missionaries, both of her host families were Mormon and she went to church for over a year. She even came to church like 20 years ago in Japan! She says she hasn’t seen missionaries, but she wants to meet us soon. Talk about someone prepared. There was a point where Adi said "I don`t mean to be rude, but what proof do you have?" when we talked about Jesus Christ & His resurrection. Of course, Oda Shimai misunderstood him and thought she said "what poop do you have?" After the lesson she was so confused and we basically were crying from laughing so hard because she still never made the connection that it was proof. They were so open minded and even though they are Hindu, they really want to learn more.

Kobayashi San was really struggling last week when I talked to him, but we were able to do a lesson with the Warners which was totally awesome. We talked about Agency and how God loves us so much so he lets us choose happiness or unhappiness. Garrett Shimai has been eaten alive by mosquitos here, so she kept killing them with her hand during the lesson. hahaha. We taught a lesson to Mika with the Warners.. I guess you can say it was not your standard missionary lesson. As you know, Mika is a very spiritual person and was a median long ago. We think because she is so close to the spirit world that Satan works on her a lot and spirits visit her a lot. We struggled to help her understand the war in heaven (because she said that she is Japanese and can’t imagine something like that) so then we read D&C 129 together and had to talk about how she can recognize a good spirit from one from Satan. She was so excited and finally understood. After the lesson, Elder Warner just said "that was a weiiiiird lesson." hahaha every lesson I leave thinking that.

We went to Fukutoku for zone conference with another zone. President Yamashita is so busy that we have to combine them. It was way awesome and Oda Shimai & I gave training in it about founding our missionary life on obedience. It was pouring rain on the way back so when we showed up for eikaiwa (English class) at night we were soaked. There is this little terror child that is 4 who comes to eikaiwa. His mom seriously doesn`t do anything to control him. He wraps himself around my leg, punched me, threw stuff at me, and even came up behind me and was sticking his head in my butt. Elder Gacillian was in the class too and he was just laughing so hard because of how much this kid was making me suffer.

Thursday our perfect san nin became too good to be true. We got a call from the assistants randomly during the afternoon and they wanted to talk to Garrett Shimai. It got really quiet and next thing we know, she is bawling. Transferring. NOOOOO. There was a Shimai in Fiji that was sent home because she was so sick, and we are the only 3 nin companionship in the mission. So of course, she had to emergency transfer again. Just like that our apartment went from 4 nin, 3 nin, to futari!! We would always sing as a trio and it was basically the most wonderful thing ever. We sang for everyone in almost every lesson. We would even start singing for people on the street! We will miss her so much. Doing the things I love with 2 of my favorite people in the world all day? Too awesome. We sang for one less active sister. She recorded it and said (your song has become my treasure). So cute.

Friday, we had a lesson with Kobayashi san again. We had daily contact with him last week. We taught him the rest of the commandments so he can feel more confident about baptism. The first commandment, about no other Gods before me, was the hardest for him. He said that is shitsurei to the other Gods! He was able to understand by the end. But he still says that he needs more time. We really tried to show him that he was ready for this Sunday, but he feels he can’t do it yet. It is a big decision and I am way glad he isn’t taking it lightly. On Sunday, he came to church and was able to see a baptism. It was seriously awesome and I think it helped him to feel a lot of peace about it. He loves church, he basically acts like a member. He just needs to get the courage to be baptized. When he is not meeting with us, he is thinking about what we teach him and what he needs to do. The baptism was great and Ushino Shimai will be an awesome member. The elder found her from housing. She looked so different after she was baptized!

We had a sports activity at the high school next to the church and it was really fun! It was such a miracle because a member we have always wanted to help one of our investigators (who is always too busy) came and we were able to do a lesson with Nachan! Her parents are against her being baptized and she still doesn’t know if God is really there or not. She has prayed, tried so many things and never received an answer. So we invited her to go home and write down all of the things that she is grateful for and she will be able to see how much God really is there and blessing her.

Garrett Shimai transferred on Sunday right after sacrament meeting. I had to give a talk on Sunday about prayer and we sung as all the missionaries. After 2 weeks of the gluten free diet, both of my companions are struggling to not go half-crazy not eating wheat. It is really hard. Hahaha. But it helps to do it all together and they have been feeling lots better!  We had to go on splits because there were several of our investigators at church and we were too busy. Yesterday, we were trying to figure out where we needed to go, so we just started heading out to this one area that is a little bit father. Then the elders called us and needed the gps for a less actives house so we had to go there. We ended up feeling we needed to work in that area and it was really awesome. We ended up finding 4 investigators yesterday. Sassy grandma gave us this t shirt tissue case and told us that she was too busy playing by herself to meet with us. . . what? hahaha. One of our new investigators, Motomura san`s husband died right after she had her baby a few months ago and she is really going through a hard time. I am so excited to help her have more hope!

I never thought I would be able to achieve the standards of excellence for our mission, but God has helped us so much and strengthened our faith and made it possible to do it. He always prepares a way to accomplish the things He commands us. We just have to have patience.  I am so grateful for His mercy and love in helping us to work hard and be obedient. I love the church. I love my mission. I love Oda Shimai.

September 22, 2014

Hey everyone!!!

I have 2 companions!!!

So Kartchner Shimai emergency transferred to Okazaki on Thursday and now we are a 3 some companionship (san nin). I seriously don’t know if I have ever had this much fun in my life. I love Oda Shimai and Garrett Shimai sooooo much. Oda Shimai is from Cleveland/Akron area of OHIO!!!! Medina?! Crazy right?!?!?  It is where we lived when I was little. I love Oda and Garrett Shimai soooo much. Every day is total and complete happiness. We are having so much fun. I seriously love it. Garrett Shimai is from Kaysville!

It is so awesome and we are working so hard and really helping each other to be the best missionaries we can be. We laugh seriously 24/7.  Oda shimai is transfer 10 and Garrett Shimai is transfer 5. I am still the STL with Oda Shimai so we call Garrett Shimai the honorary sister training leader. hahaha. So basically, I love it. I start the mission with a san nin in the MTC and end with a san nin. I always told myself that a san nin would be the worst thing that could ever happen again to me on my mission, but it just shows that  God knows better than I do because I love these shimai soooo much. It is also hilarious because you know how I was really sick and what not?  So Garrett Shimai has been having stomach problems her whole life and Oda Shimai was getting really sick last transfer so I told them that they should try eating no gluten with me! Well whadda ya know. They have and since they have stopped eating it both of their stomach problems have totally gone away! What are the odds that God decided to put us three together? Seriously too good. All of the members honestly can’t believe it, but it definitely makes it easier to follow with all 3 of us going through the same thing. The only thing is we don’t have anyone to eat the wheat products when we receive them. We are making good use of the Elders.

We have had almost daily contact with Kobayashi San. Last week, when we taught him about the prophet and the apostles and he literally stood up because he was so excited and he grabbed the picture and ran over to the member and said “have you seen this before?!?!  Look Okaasan look!.” It was seriously the cutest thing ever. He read something from the Book of Mormon that had some hard things written and so he called me Sunday night and said he needs time and he was saying all of these things and fears that he was going through. We tried to talk things through, but we have a lesson with him tomorrow. So hopefully it will help him. Satan is seriously attacking him and working on him so much, but I know that so is God. He will provide a way. It is going to be hard to get him baptized next week, but I feel peace and have faith that it will work out. Because we combined all the people we are teaching, we are soooo crazy busy. It was so busy on Saturday that we couldn’t do any of our studies or lunch or dinner. We are exhausted, and seriously don’t have time, but we are making it work!

I love our Savior so much. He loves us enough to help us change, to let us choose, and to be infinitely strengthened through his mercy and love. I love the gospel so much. I also love talking to people and all the crazy experiences we are having. Only one month left and I will give everything I have.

Crofts Shimai.
Oda Shimai is wearing glasses and Garrett Shimai has shorter hair.. We are having so much fun together!

September 15, 2014

So, it has been such an awesome week. I love love love love love love Oda Shimai. She is so awesome and I honestly couldn`t be more stoked about this transfer!  I am way lucky to be her companion.  I also love the shimai in our area we have so much fun together!!!  We have been working with Kobayashi san a lot this week. He would call all the time to just ask questions and tell us how he is feeling. Right now he still isn’t sure if he is ready to be baptized on September 28th. He won’t pray and ask God if this is really true and if this is what he needs.  We fasted for him again on Sunday and prayed so much that his heart would be touched at church. It blew my mind because every single talk, every hymn, was so directed for him and several of his concerns were totally answered throughout church. We are praying so hard for him and we actually called him this morning and talked to him for an hour trying to understand how he feels and what is preventing him from praying to god. I think he honestly knows that it is true, just if he prays to God he knows he will receive an answer. Which means he has to act soon!  I have faith that things will work out for him. We are doing everything we possibly can for him. All we can do is just leave it up to God!  After church he saw some members cleaning the church and next thing I know he is just taking a vacuum out of the closet and helping everyone clean. Hahaha I love him so much. He is already trying to figure out what he will do when I go back to America. Thank goodness for skype!

Last week Mika called me because she was so scared I would transfer. She said that she is so grateful I am not transferring because she needs a picture of me smiling to be the screensaver on her phone. She says I have the face of an angel and that there is a halo glowing over my head. She is so cute. She says she needs a picture of my smile so she can remember to always be happy and positive and make the best of every situation. She said she wants to be like me. Also, Mika had a vision that Japanese Jesus appeared to her while she was being healed by some universal power. Of course he was wearing a kimono. She thinks it is her direction and what not. We are going back with the couple missionaries Elder & Sister Warner next time! We met Kuzuno san who is 70 year old man and when we met him he just said "you have a face like god." It keeps surprising me so much that people say that. Of course I am 110 percent happy because we are working so hard and I love the Savior, but I don`t realize that other people notice.

Well interesting story for this week.. When we asked a woman if she thought god was there, she said yes!!! I pray to the toilet God, the bath God and the tree God every single day.  I was a little bit shocked. Also there were a few people we stopped to talk to that were so scared of us they were shaking and I honestly thought this one girl was going to pass out over dead because she was so scared of me. I am sorry that I am a gaijin and have to wear a helmet and ride around on a bike and stop you!! There were also women who jumped and would make a giant x with their arms and run away. Here we are smiling, and asking them how they are and talking about God and eternal families and they are terrified of us. It is awesome that me and Oda Shimai have so much fun together because we always just have to laugh it off!  She is SUCH an awesome companion.

Last week, we went to leadership training on Friday in Nagoya and it was so awesome to really come together as a mission and focus on how we can strengthen our faith to help people be baptized this month. We are going to work so hard to show God that he can trust us!

I lovvvvve being here so much!!!  I love our Savior and I am so grateful for the power of prayer. That God would care about me enough to listen to and answer my prayers. We come home at night and feel like we have to crawl into bed because we are so tired. Oda shimai & I totally give each other massages every night to keep us going. It is awesome. 伝道は大好きです。頑張りましょう

Oda Shimai & I riding all the way out to Komono Chou
I will miss Moore Shimai & Cunha Shimai so much.  Cunha Shimai was just bawling at the Nagoya Eki when we had to say goodbye to each other.  Moore Shimai is transferring to Nagano, my first area.  I will miss them.
Mikami Shimai is leaving our zone.
